Founded in 1966 by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, St. John the Baptist is a coeducational, comprehensive college preparatory school which offers a variety of courses to maximize each student’s potential. Integrity, respect, responsibility, and concern for others are representative of the qualities of character that we instill in each student at St. John’s.
Our mission is to develop each student intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. They are challenged every day to discover more about God, themselves, and their responsibilities to the world. It is through rigorous academic work and a comprehensive Campus Ministry program that we prepare students to become dynamic leaders and responsible and caring adults.
Academic development and excellence are the main focus at St. John’s. Students choose from a wide variety of course offerings and every student receives individualized guidance on course selections and collegiate applications. Multiple College Credit Courses, Advanced Placement, Honors and Regents level courses are offered. We host over 50 moderated clubs. Our Research Program, GENESIS, enables selected students to create and implement their own original research projects. For students with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), we offer a fully staffed Resource Room, in conjunction with our local school district.
St. John’s boasts extensive state-of-the-art facilities for academic coursework. These include Science labs, Computer labs (including one Mac Lab), a Learning Media Center, modern Lecture Hall and a Performing Arts Center. In addition, there is a closed-circuit TV studio, video-editing lab, a dance studio, music rooms, a radio station and three fine arts classrooms, including a photo lab. Our athletic facilities and programs have provided the foundation for our many championship teams. We offer over 80 interscholastic teams, newly renovated gymnasium, a turf field, a state-of-the-art track, a modern tennis complex, as well as a full aerobic and strength training facility.
