Founded in 1966 by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, St. John the Baptist is a co-educational, comprehensive college-preparatory school which offers a variety of courses to maximize each student’s potential. Integrity, respect, responsibility, and concern for others are representative of the qualities of character that we instill in each student at St. John’s.
Academic excellence and personal development are highly valued at St. John’s. Students can choose from a variety of course offerings and each student can receive individualized guidance on course selections and collegiate applications. Fifteen college credit courses, 14 Advanced Placement courses, as well as honors- and Regents-level courses are offered with a wide array of electives. We host more than 50 moderated clubs. Our research programs, GENESIS & AP Capstone, enable selected students to create and execute their own original projects. For students with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), we offer a fully staffed Resource Room in conjunction with our local school district.
St. John’s boasts extensive state-of-the-art facilities for academics: a new collegiate Library/Tech Center, science labs, Mac & PC computer labs and a Performing Arts Center. In addition, SJB is a Google School with a closed-circuit TV studio, video production lab, a dance studio, music rooms, radio station, and fine arts classrooms, including a photo lab. Our athletic facilities and programs have provided the foundation for our interscholastic teams and physical education classes. We offer more than 80 interscholastic teams, a newly renovated turf field and gymnasium, a state-of-the-art track, a modern tennis complex, as well as an aerobic and strength training facility.
